About
MBC UWH is run by the Marlborough Underwater Hockey Club.
Underwater Hockey was first played in Blenheim in the late 1970’s when a group of divers/spearfishermen discovered the sport in other areas of NZ and decided they’d give it a go. At that time underwater hockey was played with long sticks much like field hockey and ice hockey sticks. The puck at that time was made of a lump of lead without any rubber coating. Games were held infrequently in the outdoor pool.
College and club teams regularly travel away to South Island Club Championship tournaments, National Interclub tournaments and school Central Zones and National Schools tournaments.
Marlborough UWH players have made a mark regionally and nationally representing Tasman and NZ age group teams.
Marlborough Boys College students have attended the Central Zones schools tournament since 2016.
In 2018, MBC competed in the Central Zones Schools Tournament ,placing 2nd in the top five to qualify for the Secondary Schools Nationals Tournament where they were placed third.
Our college teams often represent the club at the South Island Club Championship and always have great success.
We often invite Nelson players over for mini competitions. They are always keen to play in our ideal pool.
Our numbers continue to rise and we look forward to these newer players developing over the upcoming years.
We play in the 2m pool on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 6pm-745pm. (Times vary for different ages).
Richie Price is our Club Captain. Richie, along with Marcus Wright and Shaun Musgrove are our coaches.
Join our club facebook page for regular updates and contact marlboroughuwh@gmail.com for more information.
If you have a positive attitude and can swim to the bottom of the pool and back up again, you are welcome to come and try UWH.

Uniform
The boys will need togs and money for pool admission. The club has masks, snorkels, fins, sticks, caps and gloves to borrow for your first term and then players are encouraged to purchase their own.
