2012 Welcoming

Y9

On 1 February 2012, Marlborough Boys’ College’s new Year Nine students commenced with the College, starting a significant journey through their secondary schooling.

The new students were welcomed by the College’s Year 13 students and Year 12 leadership group with a Powhiri on the College’s front field. Led by the Prefect team, the new students were welcomed with a vibrant and bold haka as they were welcomed onto the grounds.

The new students have spent the day undergoing orientation of the school, getting to know senior students, and the Prefect team aswell as having an afternoon partaking in sport and cultural activities which were organized by the College prefects.

Head Boy Jack Keown says that “It’s exciting to see so many fresh faces excited about the next step in their education. I look forward to meeting the young men over the coming weeks and I am sure the prefects and the rest of the student body will make them feel welcome”.

After the Powhiri, parents and students gathered in the College hall for refreshments and the announcement of form classes.

The Year 9 students have settled in well to the College and are enjoying the opportunity to meet with Prefects and senior students, before the whole school resumes on Friday 3 February 2012.

Principal Wayne Hegarty says that the new students “Have had excellent support in the induction from the Year 12 leadership group who have been absolutely superb”.

“We can see that these boys have incredible potential and have outlined the high expectations that we have for them”.
